Public Lecture by Professor Vijay Naraynsingh : ‘DIABETIC FOOT – A NATIONAL DISASTER’

Abstract:

Over the past 30 years, the amputation rate has doubled in Trinidad and Tobago.

Now, more than one amputation is done every day. About 33% of these patients die within a year.

The cost to the nation of Diabetic foot disease exceeds $ 500,000 per year and could be about 1 billion dollars if private care and rehabilitation costs are added.

Much of this is preventable and needs special attention.
