In this lecture, Professor Naraynsingh, the 2015 CARICOM Science awardee, presents his research and views on the diabetic foot.
Over the past 30 years, the amputation rate has doubled in Trinidad and Tobago.
Now, more than one amputation is done every day. About 33% of these patients die within a year.
The cost to the nation of Diabetic foot disease exceeds $ 500,000 per year and could be about 1 billion dollars if private care and rehabilitation costs are added.
Much of this is preventable and needs special attention.
